"The Medicine Hat Mavericks begin the Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs Friday in Moose Jaw.
They face the Miller Express in a best-of-three series starting at 7:05 p.m.
Moose Jaw finished the regular season with an East Division-leading 41-15 record, setting a franchise record for wins and carrying an eight-game winning streak into the playoffs.
The Mavs, on the other hand, stumbled into the postseason with three straight losses and a 22-34 record for fourth in the East, a single win ahead of the Swift Current 57s and Weyburn Beavers.
Medicine Hat will look to All-Star Game MVP Carter Roth, who set a new WCBL single-season record with 24 doubles, and several other strong batters throughout the lineup to power their offence.
Keeping Moose Jaw’s offence at bay will be a key factor in the Mavs’ success, as they gave up 91 runs over 10 games while scoring only 57.
Levi Tibbetts and Jackson Miles are the only Mavs pitchers to record a win against Moose Jaw this season.
The Miller Express feature one of the WCBL’s most productive lineups and a dominant pitching staff led by strikeout record-holder Westin Walls.
The Mavs won two of eight meetings with the Miller Express this season, and have lost six straight, a trend they will look to end.

June 7 at Athletic Park, a 17-13 Moose Jaw win.
July 1 at Ross Wells Park, a 5-2 Medicine Hat win.

July 8 at Athletic Park, a 16-10 Moose Jaw win.
July 20 at Athletic Park, a 7-2 Moose Jaw win.
July 24 at Ross Wells Park, a 4-2 Moose Jaw win.

Fans in Medicine Hat will get a chance to watch the series on Saturday when game two goes at Athletic Park at 6:45 p.m.
Then, if necessary, back in Moose Jaw for game three on Sunday at 7 p.m.
The winner of the series will face either the Saskatoon Berries or the defending champion Regina Red Sox in the East Semi-Finals.
The WCBL released a full postseason preview for all four series starting Friday.
